80th Grand Conclave
The bi-annual business meeting of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is a time to bring together old Friends and to make new ones. The 80th Grand Conclave was no exception with a celebration of Brothers who had attained milestones of Service, a salute those who had served in the military, and applauds to professional athletes and entertainers. The 80th Grand Conclave addressed issues for the Brothers through prayer, Fatherhood/Mentoring programs, health fairs, mental health forums, education and career fairs, and focused on the Black Lives Matter movement through Criminal Justice Reform. The 80th Grand Conclave reached out to young men of high school age through our Youth Leadership Conference to inspire them and to share valuable resources which better prepare them for life. And lastly, the 80th Grand Conclave and Omega’s presence, hopefully left Las Vegas for the better through Social Action initiatives.
Attack Hunger Initiative
More than 305,000 Southern Nevadans are food insecure, which includes more than 126,000 children. As part of the 80th Grand Conclave Omega Takeover activities, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the 12th District, and Beta Mu Mu and Kappa Xi Chapters partnered with Three Square Food Bank, a service network of approximately 1300 partners including nonprofit and faith-based organizations, schools, government agencies and businesses to reach struggling individuals and families at risk for hunger. On Saturday, July 23rd the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity committed 200 volunteers to aid this organization with preparing its meals for the week. Working as a part of the Attack Hunger Initiative proved fruitful and helped to build a strong community alliance.
School Beautification- Two Las Vegas Schools
The brothers of the 12th District called all Ques to the floor and rolled up their sleeves to help make a difference in the lives of young people in the Las Vegas community by posting bulletin boards, gardening, light painting and other small task at two local schools in Las Vegas. Excitement prevailed as the Men of Omega offered this service opportunity at both schools. H.P. Fitzgerald Elementary School is named in honor of one of our Omega brothers and Cheyenne High School has another Omega brother who serves as the principal. A positive impact on Las Vegas was indeed made.
